vehicles used for fox hunts to leisurely tours of country
estates are on exhibit. Imagine spending your leisure time
at country estates, elegant hotels, or century-old golf
courses.
Park Drag
Vehicles such as
the 1892 Park Drag exhibit the pastimes of a bygone era. The
Park Drag was a privately owned vehicle used in the United
States by the very wealthy as a sporting vehicle and
sometimes as a portable grandstand. Similar to public Road
Coaches, a Park Drag was 300 to 400 pounds lighter and the
rear seat was only wide enough for two liveried grooms. The
ladies and gentleman enjoyed the fine view from the seats on
the top.
This unusual
piece is painted black with cream lower panels, red risers,
and red carriage parts. The cushions are trimmed in
corduroy. Wood hubs, iron tires and mail axles support
telegraph springs and perch. This piece is complimented by
large candle lamps, three lead and two spare bars, a ladder,
drag shoe, pole, umbrella basket, two tin lined picnic boxes
on coasters and a felt-lined box for crystal.
